Our Team…… looking after your needs
Val Cook, Practice Manager
My working life started in the hotel/hospitality industry, where I was a receptionist. Then I became assistant manager for many years with a popular hotel chain. Fed up with long unsociable hours I made a career change when I was 40. I successfully applied for a receptionist position at a dental practice in Romanby, which is now OHDC. It’s a really nice, well working team.
Being Practice Manager in such a friendly warm environment makes my day to day job an absolute pleasure. Having been there so long, many of the patients are more like friends. I would like to think that new patients pick up on this and soon feel relaxed in, what are often, not so pleasant reasons for their visit. Our reception desk, where I feel most at home is in the heart of our waiting room. It’s a lovely way to really get to know you.
My family is spread all over the country from Glasgow to Devon, but we are still a close knit bunch. This leaves me little time for hobbies. My spare time is spent on the A1 or the Trans Pennine Line visiting family but every moment spent travelling is worth it when I get there
Amelia Stapley, Dental Nurse.
My apprenticeship as a Dental Nurse at Orchard House Dental Care began in May 2017. I had always wanted to work in a Caring Profession so I was very pleased to be offered the chance of an apprenticeship here.
Being part of a busy and forward looking Practice provided me with the opportunity to further develop and enhance my own personal skills, and I have always enjoyed meeting people.
My role as a dental nurse includes helping to make patients feel comfortable and at ease. There is a lot of job satisfaction at the end of the day in knowing you have been actively involved as part of a friendly, caring and professional team. I look forward to further learning and developing my training here at Orchard House.
In my spare time I enjoy fund raising for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. This can include a variety of activities aimed at helping and supporting infants from 0-5 years faced with life threatening illnesses. I also enjoy entering beauty pageants and modelling. I am currently compiling a portfolio so enjoy participating in photo shoots at various locations
Ellie Dunlop, Dental Nurse.
I started my apprenticeship in dental nursing at Orchard House in August 2017. I have always wanted a job where I can help others, make a difference and meet new people on a daily basis.
Before joining the team at OHDC I worked as a horse riding instructor and as a waitress. I loved working with horses but had to leave to concentrate on my exams and I wanted to start a new career.
I really enjoy my position as a dental nurse as I get to help patients feel at ease- whilst having a good chat! (especially on reception!).
When I am not working I enjoy horse riding and socialising with my friends and family- including my 3 dogs; Lexie, Coco and Pebbles.
