What are Six Month Smiles Clear Aligners?

They are a clear set of hard plastic aligners that are custom made for your teeth. They must be checked and replaced over the course of the first couple of months while they work at aligning your teeth into  position. Clear Aligners are sometimes a preferred choice for adults because they are practically invisible due to being clear, and can be removed if and when needed.

PROS

Comfort
Much more physically comfortable to wear. There are no wires or brackets, so you don’t have to worry about getting any painful nicks or cuts in your mouth. Also they are smooth so won’t irritate your mouth that brackets sometimes can. The aligners are similar to a clear mouth guard (or retainer if you have had traditional braces before) and lack any sharp edges.

More Attractive
Since they are clear, they don’t leave you with a mouth full of brackets and wires. In other words, they are more attractive to the eye, and most people won’t even know you are wearing them. consequently you can feel free to smile and don’t have to feel overly self-conscious.

Can be Removed
Aligners can be removed for eating, brushing your teeth and flossing, or if you’ve got that Special Occasion where you just don’t want to wear them, something that cannot be done with braces. It allows you to eat foods you want and practice better oral hygiene, which helps to lower your risk of developing gum disease while you go through the process of straightening your teeth. You won’t have to worry about food particles getting stuck, which can happen with traditional braces unless you are very thorough when cleaning.

Minimal Maintenance
Aligners require minimal maintenance. They can get dirty over time when you wear them, but you can freshen them by using denture cleaning tablets. Scrubbing them with a toothbrush and soap for a minute can eliminate any stains too.

CONS

Unfortunately, as with everything, there are also some disadvantages to Aligners.

Expensive
One of the biggest cons of any Aligner treatment is that they are expensive. Invisalign Full can cost around £3,500, however if you are suitable, we can provide Six Month Smiles Clear Aligners for quite a bit less.

Attachments
More and more attachments to go along with Aligners have become the norm. The attachments usually bond to your teeth in a way that is similar to brackets that are used with standard braces.

Must keep them in almost all day
Aligners should be worn a minimum of 22 hours per day. Typically, you are only supposed to remove them for eating and brushing/daily oral hygiene. If you are heading out for a date or going to a party, you will have to wear them, or treatment time WILL be extended.

Tooth Discomfort
Getting new aligner trays can be uncomfortable and even painful when you get fitted for a new set. Although most patients refer to the feeling as “pressure,” it can be painful as your teeth are adjusting to movement.

Inconvenience
Aligners are cumbersome. You always have to remove them for eating, which means you may deal with some embarrassment if you go out to eat. You are also required to brush your teeth after each meal before putting them back in your mouth, which means you’ll be brushing your teeth multiple times per day, which can be inconvenient, and possibly damaging depending on the number of meals and snacks you have.
