FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are there any Side Effects?
The area treated is frozen by Cryotherapy. This kills the localised cells in the area which causes them to shrivel and die. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in around 6-8 weeks. The blemish may slightly increase in size and go darker initially. Very occasionally a small blister forms and you may get an itching sensation. If the area is close to the hairline or eyebrows, then the hair follicle can be destroyed also, resulting in possible hair loss
How Long are Cryotherapy treatments?
The duration of the treatment time and number of appointments will depend on the size and number of blemishes but also the thickness of the tissue being treated. At your Consultation a clinical evaluation is made of the area, and David or Stephanie will choose an application time from 5 to 30 seconds per treatment. The majority of the time, only one treatment will be required.
How Much will the Treatment Cost?
Again this will depend on the size of the area or number of blemishes to be treated and whether a follow up treatment is needed, but typically it is from £10 per blemish. This will be discussed in full at your Consultation.
How Safe is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a low-risk procedure. It delivers a freeze directly to the specific area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. The Cryotherapy device is both CE and FDA approved.
Is the Treatment Painful?
There will be a mild pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the gas reaches the bottom of the treated area. This quickly subsides. There may be a little residual stinging or itching for a few minutes after treatment, which is normal. For treatment on the forehead and temples you may experience a short 'brain freeze' type headache, and if treating the fingers you may experience mild pins and needles for a short time afterwards.
