WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY?

Cryotherapy is an advanced treatment that is a fast, effective, safe solution for removal of skin imperfections.

Procedures typically last from 5 to 30 SECONDS!, so you can be in and out of clinic quickly, with little to no downtime.

HOW IT WORKS

Our cryotherapy device emits a very fine jet of gas under high pressure, which allows David or Stephanie to work with millimetre precision.

The gas destroys unwanted tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the targeted cells.

This means there will be very little collateral damage to healthy tissue, and no scarring. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical. The applicator is held as close as possible to the skin imperfection and moved quickly around it. This could be from 5-30 seconds, depending on the size and depth.

Cosmetic procedures such as Skin Tags, Milia and Cherry Angiomas are no longer being treated by most doctors on the NHS, but with this Cryotherapy technology you can now have these treatments here, at Orchard House. We can carry out the procedure at the same appointment that you may be having other treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are there any Side Effects?

The area treated is frozen by Cryotherapy. This kills the localised cells in the area which causes them to shrivel and die. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in around 6-8 weeks. The blemish may slightly increase in size and go darker initially. Very occasionally a small blister forms and you may get an itching sensation. If the area is close to the hairline or eyebrows, then the hair follicle can be destroyed also, resulting in possible hair loss

How Long are Cryotherapy treatments?

The duration of the treatment time and number of appointments will depend on the size and number of blemishes but also the thickness of the tissue being treated. At your Consultation a clinical evaluation is made of the area, and David or Stephanie will choose an application time from 5 to 30 seconds per treatment. The majority of the time, only one treatment will be required.

How Much will the Treatment Cost?

Again this will depend on the size of the area or number of blemishes to be treated and whether a follow up treatment is needed, but typically it is from £10 per blemish. This will be discussed in full at your Consultation.

How Safe is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a low-risk procedure. It delivers a freeze directly to the specific area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. The Cryotherapy device is both CE and FDA approved.

Is the Treatment Painful?

There will be a mild pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the gas reaches the bottom of the treated area. This quickly subsides. There may be a little residual stinging or itching for a few minutes after treatment, which is normal. For treatment on the forehead and temples you may experience a short 'brain freeze' type headache, and if treating the fingers you may experience mild pins and needles for a short time afterwards.
