Lips through the decades…!

So no matter how long you’ve been in the field of facial aesthetics, it’s so important to keep up with the latest research & techniques.
I was delighted to be invited to Restylane’s recent Masterclass on “Lips through the decades” in Newcastle.
We revised the anatomical changes that happen through the ‘decades’ from age 20 into the 60’s. We also covered the latest safe and effective techniques when treating this area.
Lips often get left out of the anti-aging conversation. Yet our lips are particularly vulnerable to showing signs of age.
Volume loss and lines around the mouth are some of the earliest signs of aging- as the structures that give our lips their full, plump shape begin to wear down over time.
Lines and wrinkles are more common in smokers and those with increased exposure to the sun. Lines can also be worse due to muscular movement in those who smoke and purse when they speak.
With age, the border of the lip, the so-called white roll, loses its definition. It is common for lipstick to bleed from the red part of your lip onto your skin because you have lost structure at the border.
This is best treated with a dermal filler to restore volume and support the structures around the mouth.
Not all lip fillers are done with the intention of creating bigger, Kylie Jenner-esque lips!
Over Treatment
Yes, over-treating the lip border can give you “duck-lips”, but more subtle treatments go a long way to define the lip from the skin surrounding the mouth.
Injecting small amounts of hyaluronic acid into the lips- such as FDA approved Restylane, Juvederm, or Belotero can make the lips more defined, and therefore a little younger-looking – without changing the size dramatically.
“It’s reassuring to know my clients are getting the best products, the latest techniques and then most importantly! Great results!!
Restylane has an impressive 30 years of clinical data & a fantastic safety profile”.
