What is PRP and iPRF?

PRF is a natural treatment that uses a small sample of your own blood to support both skin and hair rejuvenation.

Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Hair loss can be a natural part of our bodies functional cycle occurring in the hair follicle.

There are three phases to this cycle;

  • Exogen (shedding phase)
  • Telogen (resting phase)
  • Anagen (growth phase)

Should multiple follicles of the hair be in the resting phase of the bodies cycle at the same time the hair can appear to be thinning.

i-PRF has been shown to extend the Anagen (growth) phase and increase the amount of blood supply to the hair follicles. This ultimately results in a fuller scalp.

Treatment consists of multiple injections into the scalp followed and/or microneedling at the same appointment, and then follow up treatments of Keravive (via Hydrafacial) are recommended, and also home care. Treatment results will be seen in a relatively short time, but full results and can take longer, with i-PRF treatment needed every 1-2 months.

How Does i-PRF Smart Cell work?

Dr. David will take a small amount of blood from the arm, which is centrifuged to separate the cells, allowing the conditioned plasma to be extracted and used. The growth factors and platelets become trapped within the three-dimensional fibrin matrix and released slowly to trigger cellular renewal, skin remodeling and stem cell stimulation.

Frequently Asked Questions About PRP/i-PRF

What Is the Difference Between i-PRF and PRP?

i-PRF does not use anti-coagulant or chemicals. The platelet concentration in i-PRF is more than double that of PRP. The three-dimensional fibrin matrix traps the platelets and growth factors and controls their slow release which leads to a more efficient cell migration, proliferation, and bio-stimulation. i-PRF, like PRP is unique to you, because we use your own growth factors.

Who is suitable for i-PRF?

If you have any of the following, you may be advised to postpone any PRF treatment:-

  • Pregnancy or breast-feeding
  • Undergoing anticoagulant therapy, such as Warfarin
  • Any medical condition having a significant effect on platelet function
  • Unwell because of any recent blood-loss or infection

Why is Fibrin Important?

Fibrin functions as a matrix that traps platelets contained in the Plasma, and controls the release of growth factors “very slowly and continuously' over 7-10 days. Growth factors release rate into the target tissue is important for tissue receptors to respond over a prolonged period of time following treatment. Platelets release 7 fundamental growth factors:

  • PDGF(Platelet Derived Growth Factor) - help to heal wounds and to repair damage to blood vessel walls
  • FGF(Fibroblast Growth Factor) - controls the proliferation, differentiation, and migration of a variety of cell types of mesodermal and neuroectodermal origin

What is the role of i-PRF treatment in Hair Growth Treatment?

This is an all-natural non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who suffer from hair loss or thinning. i-PRF can enhance the growth of hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the micro-environment of the hair follicle, through the release and use of growth factors (see above). These special platelet cells promote healing and accelerate the rate and degree of tissue regeneration, resulting in new hair growth and thickening of existing hair. It can only help with recent hair loss where the follicles are still present, but are dormant. It cannot help to grow hair that has been lost for a prolonged period, i.e., complete baldness.

How can it help with Scarring?

A scar is basically repaired tissue where the collagen has been deposited in a very dense pattern. Therefore the skin appears to look whiter and tougher and shows dips, dents or little bumps. i-PRF will help the cells in the skin to reorganise the scar tissue and make the scar look softer and more like the original skin.
